Tarot Puff…
My mother brought me up being open to so many things. We believed in aliens…in past lives…in reincarnation…in astrology…mind power (what is now in “The Secret”). I’m not sure if you call all that new age but my mother was more into these things than taking us to church. But one thing she didn’t want me to do was making ‘pa-hula’. She warned me against that fortune telling bullshit…telling me that they are self-fulfilling. “If someone tells you this is going to happen to you…you’ll put it into your subconscious and attract that exact thing to happen to you. And then you’ll say, oh, the fortune-teller was right!”
However, as I was nearing my 27th birthday, I had this insistent urge to have my fortune told. I justified it to myself…my mom said that this was self-fulfilling…however, she believed so much in astrology as well…which also tells you things that will happen in the future right? Also, I am a very, very stubborn girl…and even if a fortune teller tells me I would end up with a poor guy with a small poypoy…I would definitely challenge that and not let that happen. And lastly, don’t people do these things to be ‘guided’ in some way…if something bad is foreseen…then at least they can do something now to prevent it.
Okay, enough justification. I was scared to do it. Partly because of my mother’s words and partly because I didn’t want to hear bad news like “You’re never gonna have children” or “You’re going to die really soon” (someone actually told me before that I would die young while reading my palm…how mean is that!).
But this evening, pushed by my monthly pre-menstrual restlessness and psychotic-ness, I packed up early and hitched a ride to Galleria. I went straight to the last floor where the Gary Lising store is and looked for Da Seeker’s Cove.
What they had there was Tarot Card reading…which I was very skeptical about…what with Madame V and all. I asked if there were any other psychic readings they could do. But then the Tarot Card reading was the cheapest. So I took it. P400 for 15 minutes.
Surprisingly, I had to wait my turn. Apparently, there are several other pre-menstrual confused women who wanted their fortunes told tonight.
Finally, it was my turn and the fortune teller was ready to see me.
I was expecting a woman with a turban or some head dress…with long fingernails with Caronia nail polish and trinkets and thick makeup. Instead, it was a young lady in jeans and slippers.
Here are excerpts from my session. (Those in parentheses are thoughts in my head):
Lady: Hi, how old are you?
Me: 27
Lady: What?! You’re 27? I thought you were a Povedan and I was wondering if you had permission from your parents to do this.
Me: Oh…you thought I was a student? Like I’d like to know if I’d have good grades this quarter or something?
Lady: Oh I’ve had students who did that! One was an honor student and she was asking about her grades!
Me: Oh my God…tell her to get a life, right!
Lady: Yah I know right. Soo
Lady: Okay, pick 12 cards with your left hand…
Oh but with your career…(okay, here we go)…there are going to be a lot of challenges with the job you have now. But these challenges are necessary so you’ll get this bump in the head and you’ll discover what you really want to be doing.
(Okay…let’s get to the good part…)
Me: Umm…what about umm…my love life…??
Lady:
Lady: He’s an older man.
(hmmm…how much older are we talking about here? 50? 60? Pensionado na ba ito?)
Lady: And you will get married one day. But you two will take a bit longer to have kids because you are both busy with your work…but yes, you will have kids. (what? I’m 27! How much longer do I even have to have kids??)
Me: Okay…what about me in general. Like overall well-being?
Lady: Well, the cards say you have a lot of self doubt. A lot of indecision. You have to stop letting things happen to you and start making things happen for yourself.
As for family…it’s good, there will be a new beginning…(ah, a new nephew or niece perhaps). For finances…well, you won’t be as rich as Paris Hilton (crap!)…but you will always be well provided for. As for friends….hmmm…oh…(uh oh, why did she pause there)…that man…the relationship…he might actually come from here (oooh…a friend! Uh-oh…all my single male friends are assholes!).
Then she made me pick a final card…some bonus card. And it read ‘harmony…conflict is resolved. Know that you deserve peace and happiness’.
So how was my overall tarot card experience? It was actually a lot of fun. We were laughing the whole time (she said her clients were usually so serious and looked depressed…and it was a relief I was at least laughing at my fortune). The weird thing is, without telling her much, she was able to tell me lot of things about my life and about myself that were true (I didn’t write down everything here of course). Yeah…yeah…I’ve been a skeptic too. But it was just so cool that she hit some stuff right on the bullseye. And I wasn’t scared or told anything bad. It was pretty fun…like having dinner with a friend (that would cost you around P400 too=P). In the end anyway, all of us will make decisions everyday that could change the course of our lives. It doesn’t matter what the cards say. I’m just glad it said I’m not going to be single forever=P

Juned and Marcelle could read you your future quite correctly, if you’d ask them. And they won’t charge since they’d probably do it in a blog meet in front of all the bloggers =)
Ako rin huhulaan kita. Before you hit 30, you will….

.Brilliant post with a permutation-based-funny reading
Lol!
In my experience, you have to be a little careful around some of these people (tarot card readers, psychics etc.)
.They take themselves fairly seriously.
.btw nice site

I once went to the fortune teller once. She told me to steer clear of midgets. I wish I had followed her advice.

One time I had a girlfriend who went to one of those fortune readers (actually I was with her when she went in). Among other things, the fortune reader said she would get married someday but I won’t be the one she would be marrying. About less than six months later, she broke up with me saying so and so reasons.
Took me two years to get over her and move on with my love life.
Hirap talaga if you get so much in love with someone. You give it your whole heart and it gets served back to you on a platter.

@Ghost…
Let me guess…the fortune teller also told you to stay away from grocery aisles?

It’s been a while since I had a reading. If I pay for it, i consider it as fun entertainment. If my reader-friend, who doesn’t charge, reads for me, I consider it a gift - an opportunity for insight and reflection. Peace out!

@papichulo168 LOL! … that fortune teller was telling the future of my (then) gf and not my future. And that happened over 10 years ago, I think. Yikes! Am I really that old?

[…] As the Tarot card reader said, I’m pretty much a very happy and content person. She was right about that…no matter how much I complain about my love life (or the lack thereof) and my job and my life…I’m generally happy anyway. But recently, a friend from abroad visited…and I realized that I wasn’t doing much at all. All I do everyday is go to work, go home, watch TV/DVD, sleep, go to work again…and so on. On weekends, I either work or visit my nephew. But when my friend was here, I was dragged along t places I haven’t gone to…and did stuff I didn’t usually do. I got to go club hopping (which I never did before except for work), I got to walk the streets of Divisoria (which I was afraid to do before), I got to listen to my favorite band Sugarfree (Ever since they came out, I’ve wanted to watch them perform but never got to it. They’ve been popular for a few years now and I finally got to watch their gig.) and got to meet the members too and talk to the lead singer over beers. My friend even knows more places now in my own country than I do! I don’t think my life is a bore (although some might think so because I don’t go out much, I don’t drink, smoke, take drugs or know anything about gambling or even poker-everyone’s favorite game these days)…but there are so many things I want to do but I end up doing nothing at all but work and stare at the TV. So I decided to do something new every week. It doesn’t have to be anything extreme. Just something new. Maybe even as simple as a new restaurant. Last week, I had my first ever fortune telling session with the Tarot card reader. That turned out to be fun. This week….I went white water rafting in Cagayan de Oro. Thanks to WORK, I got to go for free. Now this is a big thing for me… because I don’t know how to swim. So I went…with our production staff….and I was stuck being the only girl in the raft with 3 guys (the two other girls abandoned me). I was able to do my share in the paddling and I didn’t fall off the raft (one of the other guys from our raft fell and hit some rocks). I did, however, have to pee in the river after the 5th rapids. I asked permission from the guide before I did…”Pwede bang umihi?”, he said, “Pwede, kahit diyan nalang sa upuan mo”…But then I got embarrassed since there were 3 guys with me. It was a lot of fun. We were briefed about the different types of paddling techniques. And the guide gave me very simply instructions in case I fell off the raft (he said you should just float and not struggle). “Okay…if you fall, just lie down and spread your legs…”…..”Ah, kayang kaya ko yun!” That’s me behind the guy in the white shirt…trying to paddle. […] So yeah, that was a very optimistic outlook for the rest of my life. Now, I don’t necessarily believe in fortune tellers and any other sort of sorcery like that (unlike this fairy midget), but then hearing things like that are, well, in a word, depressing. Well, imagine being told about these stupid turns your life will take. It’s not exactly the happiest thing to hear. It’s not the fortune teller’s fault, but still, they make you realize stuff. […]
